Having consistently made strides into the world of e-commerce the past few years, Pinterest's ambitions to monetise purchasing through the platform are showing no signs of slowing down, with their biggest moves in the space for D2C brands just announced.

Amongst the many updates presented at the second annual Pinterest Presents summit last week were advancements in the site’s shopping capabilities that allow users to make purchases without having to leave the site or app.

The three key functions announced, both of which are in beta testing and are expected to be rolled out globally later in the year, are:

1. Your Shop

Announced with the help of super-stylish Tan France, Your Shop is being positioned as “a new personal shopping concierge, powered by a taste-driven algorithm.” In this area of the platform, users will be able to browse products available for purchase that have been AI-curated based on the individual’s taste.

2. Pinterest Checkout

To ensure streamlined, smooth purchases within the site, Pinterest is set to roll out an in-app shopping cart and checkout function for Shopify-powered sellers.

3. Additional API

The new Shopping API makes it significantly easier for merchants and sellers to add their products to the platform by automating uploads of catalogues, images and product information. This saves time for brands, making this exciting new revenue stream accessible for businesses of all size.
